The Blood Bank Technical Specialist (Outside Sales Technical Specialist) will also have secondary ownership of assigned customer targets within a geographic territory.

Other responsibilities for the position will include:

  • Provide training and technical support in the field for instrumentation, manual methods, and reagents

  • Work collaboratively with the Blood Bank Business Manager to grow reagent sales, support instrument base and address ongoing customer needs. 

  • Work in conjunction with the Technical and Field Services group on escalated customer product or technical problems

  • Prepare accurate CRM based territory business plans, go-live forecasts, and reports to achieve assigned quota and product mix objectives.

  • Lead the addition of assays to drive reagent growth on automation platforms within assigned territory. 

  • Understand product positioning and benefits vs. competitor products Available for LEAN workflow consultations, Instrument evaluation and customer site audits as needed.

  • Provide technical insights as a Subject Material Expert (SME) for both automation and reagent performance and integration.

  • Lead customer through instrument validation process to achieve at plan go-live timing. To provide assistance on items to include (but not limited to): Preparation and planning, PQ, LIS/Validation, Instrument method validation, customer SOP assistance, determine customer go-live phases and dates, MD sign-off, staff training, QA review, Data assimilation and presentation to MD.

  • Work independently and collaboratively to successfully resolve instrument/product issues. 

  • Interact with Technical Service, Field Service and Field Quality to investigate/resolve customer issues. 

  • Maintain relationships with industry thought leaders in the region to advocate products driving market behavior. 

  • Active in regional conferences to help drive forums to educate industry on products.

  • Comply with GEN.109, Complaint Handling for recording all complaint resolution activities during critical account management and intervention (detailed trip report in the form of complaint resolution files and data) A key technical resource with blood donor centers, large and corporate account management.

  • Manage calibration tools and diagnostic equipment.

  • Qualifications:
    We are looking for an experienced candidate for the Blood Bank Technical Specialist (Outside Sales Technical Specialist) position who has a Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university along with some prior outside sales and/or technical experience. In addition, the Blood Bank Technical Specialist (Outside Sales Technical Specialist) must live in the geographic sales region that they are assigned to and must be willing to travel over 70% of the time for this role.

    We are seeking a Transfusion Safety Coordinator (TSC) to act as the liaison within the hospital environment to ensure that blood management and transfusion related activities are conducted in the safest possible manner, meet or exceed all existing safety and regulatory requirements, and are within established guidelines.

    Responsible for the development and effective coordination of the Patient Blood Management Program and processes to assure that all transfusion related activities are conducted in the safest possible manner and meet or exceed all existing safety and regulatory requirements. Collaborates with all levels of clinical and medical personnel to evaluate transfusion management strategies and offer recommendations for improvement.

    The TSC will serve as a resource to nurses, medical staff and laboratory staff related to blood management and administration, transfusion related safety issues, and this includes the preparation and presentation of education materials to accomplish this task.

    Key Responsibilities:
    1. Serves as resource to physicians, nursing and laboratory staff relating to blood utilization and transfusion procedures.
    2. Develop and monitors a blood product utilization program to ensure that appropriate products are requested and used and that wastage is minimal.
    3. Conducts prospective and retrospective audits on the utilization of blood and blood products and brings utilization issues to the attention of the Quality and Transfusion Service Medical Directors and the Transfusion Safety Committee.
    4. Promotes bench-marking and evidence-based practice in the appropriate transfusion of blood, blood products and their alternatives.
    5. Responds to concerns and requests for assistance to ensure compliance with established guidelines and policies pertaining to blood component utilization, administration and documentation.
    6. Conducts investigations of errors, deviations, and near-miss events that involve blood component administration that occur outside of the laboratory. 
    7. Reviews and investigates transfusion reactions and reports to the Manager, Medical Director and Transfusion Committee and where appropriate recommends changes to current practices.
    8. Leads hospital's Transfusion Committee meetings together with the Transfusion Service Medical Director and Hospital Quality Medical Director.
    9. Works collaboratively with the Laboratory Manager, Technical Specialist and Blood Transfusion staff to provide input to procedures and policies relating to transfusions.
    10. Participates as a member of hospital committees requiring Transfusion Medicine input such as new product evaluation and nursing procedures.
    11. Provides education to physicians, residents, technologists, paramedical, nursing personnel and patients on appropriate use of blood, blood products, and blood transfusion devices and other related information.
    12. Arranges and facilitates multidisciplinary work-groups as needed to ensure the coordination of blood management services and resources.
    13. Maintains professional growth and development in the field of blood management through an ongoing process of formal and informal. Identifies self-learning needs and establishes personal and professional goals as the Transfusion Safety Officer.
    14. Assists with hospital Clinical Quality Outcomes monitoring projects as assigned.
    15. Conducts Patient Blood Management audit and provides performance measure reports and analysis to Transfusion Safety Committee. 
    Facilitates pathology review of transfusion service reports.

    Qualifications:
    1. Bachelor of Science Degree in a science or healthcare related field 
    2. Minimum three years of experience in leadership and performance/quality improvement roles in nursing and/or transfusion service.
    3. Minimum five years recent experience in Nursing or Clinical Lab Science
    4. Experience in Emergency Medicine, Critical Care or Transfusion Service preferred.
    5. Experience in performance improvement data reporting and analysis 

    License/Certification/Registration Requirements:
    1. State or national license as a Registered Nurse (RN/BSN) or Clinical Lab Scientist/Medical Technologist- MT(ASCP) or Clinical Blood Bank Specialist- SBB(ASCP)
